Social media has spread so fast and especially with younger users, who will be driving the business of the future.  So I’m sure we will use social media more.  Seems pretty informal to me.  But then I suppose that email must have seemed very informal after all the formal typed business letters that used to be used for inter-business communication.  I somehow can’t imagine a CEO twittering to a business colleague… it just sounds crazy!!

I’m sure that hand held devices will get used even more and develop even more fancy applications or functions.  Mastering the funtions on an iPhone is difficult enough for me!!

Yeah sure buddy… who you trying to fool?  I can’t think of an industry that is probably more further from The Green Revolution.  Just look at Vegas for a start… its all about entertainment, no matter the cost to the environment.

But apparently some of the big hotel groups are implementing some projects that help to save energy and water.  It makes the most sense to start with energy consumption, as this is probably one of the largest expenses in the casino and gambling industry.  Lighting alone has a huge  contribution to energy consumption and there have been some huge technological breakthroughs with energy efficient LED lighting.  Vegas neon lighting can be seen from outer space… so its a good place to start!

There must be a portion of the market that would demand “environmentally friendly” places to stay.  People are becoming more and more aware of their footprint on the planet.  If it comes down to choice, between staying in a hotel that makes an effort to be “green” and one that doesn’t, then some customers may choose the environmentally friendly hotel.  Its a tough, competitive market out there.  Although most wouldn’t even bother to ask about how “green” the hotel or casino is.

Reducing energy and resource consumption will also reduce expenses, something that all companies must be looking at during these tougher times.

I hardly think its going to make headlines in the world of gambling or poker news, yet everyone should be doing their part to save the planet and reduce their impact.

Apart from a few exceptions that usually have taken up a local theme that is unique.  Or others that offer such fantastic, professional and friendly service, that they stand out in your mind, even though their product is ordinary.

Ok so there has to be some standards when it comes to the casino game rules… so that when you walk in and play blackjack it is understood by all the visitors, no matter where they are from.  I understand that.  But when it comes to decoration, comforts, service and themes… then surely there could be more originality.  Or does everyone want to be like Vegas???

That’s the thing with globalization, we are all becoming the same.  Metamorphism into the same grey, uniform, undistinguishable blobs around the world…  OUCH!!

So why is blackjack so popular?  Well, one reason is that in blackjack everyone plays against the dealer and the dealer represents the house or the casino.  Everyone wants to beat the casino and win money off them – blackjack is the one casino game where gamblers can challenge the house directly – it becomes an “us against them” scenario…

If the dealer goes bust and fails, everyone around the blackjack table succeeds.  This creates a feeling of goodwill around the table and a sort of “team spirit” as everyone bands together to try and take on the casino and beat the dealer.

It was a trip to be remembered although I think some parts will not be remembered, maybe its better that way!  The guys really went to a lot of effort on their costumes, which was great because that got everyone in the spirit of things… party time!

The gambling didn’t go to well, I thought that I would win the blackjack, but rookie Brad took the prize… he didn’t let me forget it either, rubbed it in the whole weekend.

James was dressed as Elvis and at around 2.00am we lost him, he doesn’t even remember where he was, or at least that’s his story!  We looked everywhere… do you know how embarrassing it is to go up to people and asking them, “Have you seen Elvis?”…  People look at you as if you are crazy… “sure dude, try over there…”

We couldn’t exactly say have you seen James?  Because he was dressed as Elvis and looked just like Elvis. Eventually we gave up, found him the next morning at breakfast looking very sorry for himself.

Now its back to the 21st century and reality – back to the future.  It was quite cool to escape to the 60’s I quite liked it there.

And the song “Viva Las Vegas” is stuck in my mind… “got a whole lot of money that’s a ready to burn, so get those stakes up higher…”

Its Frankie’s idea, he has sent out invites, put together the whole trip for us… set the theme and is making us dress up – so its time to rock ‘n roll back to the 50’s and 60’s… don’t know where I’m going to find those tight fitting clothes!

Knowing the group that is going, a lot of time will be spent in the casino – but he has set some compulsory group activities which are a surprise… I should have an edge on the other guys when it comes to blackjack!!
